European hedge funds are steadily gaining mass and closing in on their American counterparts. The collective assets managed by the firms on Alpha’s 2007 Europe 50 – more than $300 billion – increased by 50 percent since September 2005, and show no sign of stagnating. In fact, the average performance of the firms on the Europe 50 handily beats American return figures, 14.74 percent compared to 12.64 percent. In other words, the firms on Alpha’s Europe 50 are the firms to watch as the hedge fund industry continues its ascent.
